Hail Damage to a Motorhome in Czech Republic: What Your Comprehensive Insurer Actually Pays
Hail is covered under partial cover and therefore under fully comprehensive too, so the dispute is almost never about whether you are covered. It is about how much — and on a sandwich-bodied motorhome assessed from photographs, the figure is systematically too low.
The hail picture in Czech Republic
Summer convective storms with hail from June through August, and tree fall in the heavily wooded lakeside sites, which is proportionally more common here than anywhere else in this campaign. Flooding along the Vltava and its tributaries after heavy rainfall. Hail intensity is lower than in the alpine belt but the exposure of vehicles standing under mature trees is higher.
Why the vehicle type changes the answer
A motorhome body is not a car body. Outer skin over an insulating core, no rigid substrate behind it, and in most constructions no access to the back of the panel. Paintless dent repair usually does not apply. Roof damage is invisible from the ground and is where the heaviest loading lands. Rooflights, solar panels and air conditioning shrouds fail independently of the panels around them and each is a separate line in the estimate.
The full method is set out in the guide to hail damage on motorhomes and caravans.
Where this happens in Czech Republic
Czech camping for German visitors concentrates on water: the Lipno reservoir in South Bohemia, the Bohemian lake district, the Vltava corridor, and the sandstone country of Bohemian Switzerland. Sites are wooded, lakeside and considerably cheaper than the alpine equivalents, which is a large part of the appeal.
What to do the same day
- Do not sweep the hailstones off the roof or the pitch. Their size is the evidence.
- Photograph in low sun angle, along the panel rather than square on. Dents vanish in flat midday light.
- Obtain the meteorological record for the location and date.
- If others on your site were hit, say so — one visit can survey many vehicles.

How it works here
- Send photographs and your location by WhatsApp. First response within 2 hours.
- Triage: is the vehicle safe to move, and what must be secured before it is touched.
- On-site inspection, normally 48-72 hours from instruction.
- Report in the language of the insurer handling the claim, with translated annexes.
- If the amount is disputed: expert determination under section 84 VVG.
Comprehensive cover rests on your contract rather than on anyone's liability. The insurer bears the cost of the assessor it appoints; an independently commissioned appraisal is, as a rule, commissioned and paid for by the policyholder. We quote a fixed price before any work begins. Detail on that is on who pays for the appraisal.
Damage now? Send photographs before the vehicle is moved.
